Dick de Lonlay (pseudonym of George Hardouin) born in France in 1846 and died always in France in 1893, was a good historian a finest artist and a valorous soldier.
He fought during the Franco-Prussian war of 1870-71 serving as Cavalry guide of Imperial Guard. Under the title of : “Francais & Allemand”, Histoire anecdotique de la Guerra de 1870-1871, publishing in 1888 by Garnier Freres Edicteurs in Paris;
the work of De Lonlay was based on nearly 2000 pages of French text providing a chronological coverage of French-Prussian battles through history with 242 superb pen coloured drawings by the author.
There are also about one hundred fine quality black and white drawings.
Rare due to low print numbers and exquisitely bonded, these two books full of engraved prints and many great images, are in the Soldiershop’s stock of ancient and historical books.
